Sander Penders
Accountant (NL)
Tore Rødland
Analyst (NO)Catherine Angela Smy, Accountant (Norway)
Catherine, you work as an Accountant and work together with the Advisory and Support team from the Stavanger office. Can you tell us about the company culture? What is it like?
“There is a strong focus on working together, sharing knowledge and experiences with each other. Everyone here is knowledgeable in one way or another, but that doesn’t mean we are experts on everything. Of course, we are not, but that is what makes collaboration such a great thing. The willingness to help is really a driver for development here, as we continuously work together on improvement initiatives. We strive to be future-focused and proactive in every way we can, something I find highly motivating.”
What would you say to those out there who are considering applying for a job in the function?
“If you are interested in gaining experience that goes beyond the financial aspects of this work, you should definitely consider becoming our new co-worker. The exposure to the knowledgeable people that work here and learning from the different business areas is not just highly developing, but an important part of our work. When starting in finance I didn’t know that I would be working with sustainability to the extent that I do here, but this is top of mind in our reporting. And so, I get to work closely with the company’s sustainability team, taking part in interesting discussions and learning more than I ever though I would in this position.”
Sander Penders, Accountant (The Netherlands)
Sander, you work as an Accountant in the Advisory and Support function from our office in Rotterdam. What do you see as the competitive advantages in your work compared to similar jobs in other companies?
“The work here is diverse, and normally entails quite the deep dive into the whole process behind things. We need to understand what drives the numbers before we can conclude on any subject matters. It’s a steep learning curve, and it never gets boring due to the opportunities that you are presented here, to develop and advance. I have been working within the energy industry for nearly 20 years, but in Equinor I feel like I never stop learning. The chance to expand your professional network, being involved in the most relevant industry challenges while having a chance to make an impact, makes this a great place to work.”
What would you say to those out there who are considering applying for a job in the function?
“Equinor is a huge employer that attracts a lot of good people on a global scale. No matter the location you are working from, you will become an important part of a wider team, where we work together and make use of each other’s skillsets throughout the company. We share common goals, and as for Norway and the Netherlands, we share a cultural likeliness as well, where transparency, openness and honesty are highly valued. In addition, you get to contribute to the energy transition by defining how the business can be profitable in the future with a more sustainable set-up, something that just adds another valuable dimension to the work we do.”
Tore Rødland, Analyst (Norway)
Tore, you work as an Analyst in Accounting, Tax and Management Reporting. In your opinion, working from the Stavanger office, what opportunities do you have for professional development?
“Equinor is like a huge puzzle, where you get to be a part of putting together all the pieces and seeing the finished result, the big picture if you will. You’re not just adding your one piece. Getting to know the energy industry through the eyes of this huge company has been extremely educational. The size of this company alone will make sure you are never bored, and you will learn a lot from working together with the different business areas. There are endless opportunities to learn and develop here, and you will be surrounded with great co-workers every step of the way.”
What would you say to those out there who are considering applying for a job in the function?
“Equinor has a clear vision to be a leader in the energy transition towards a more sustainable future. As a member of the Accounting and Financial Reporting team, you would have the opportunity to contribute to this important mission by helping to ensure the company's financial stability and long-term success. In this day and age, I really can’t think of a more relevant place to be. And so, if this makes your finance heart tick, you should file an application as soon as possible!”
