Gas leak probably stopped
The leak from the P-31 well on the Snorre A platform appears to have been halted.
"Gas is no longer appearing on the sea surface," says Terje Overvik, executive vice president for Exploration & Production Norway.
As a result, we have decided to reduce the high degree of emergency response by one level.
The Sea King helicopter from the joint rescue coordination centre for southern Norway, which has been on standby on the Stena Don drilling rig, will now return to land. Work to permanently secure the well is continuing.
There is no visible evidence of any oil leaks in connection with this incident.
At the moment, oil-based drilling mud is being loaded on board Snorre A from the Stril Pioner ship.
The crew of 36 who have worked to control the well will be relieved by a new crew that is on its way to the platform. Plans to send ashore personnel who were evacuated to nearby platforms are continuing.
