ETV enters into a LOOP agreement with Finnish Rocsole Oy
The project has the aim of developing and testing Rocsole’s intelligent inline inspection sensor (smart pig) based on electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) technology, with capabilities to identify, quantify and differentiate depositions of wax, hydrates, scale and asphaltenes in pipelines.
Point sensors with this capability already exist in the industry (also offered by Rocsole), but the unique value proposition of the technology currently under development, is the ability to pull a sensor string behind an inspection pig, thus allowing identification and measurement of deposits along the full length of a pipeline.
This will enable operators of pipelines to optimize the use of chemicals and pipeline cleaning services and to change from a preventive to a predictive maintenance philosophy. There is identified a first user for the project, and the technology is scheduled to be tested out in a large-diameter pipeline at the NCS.
