August 17, 1998, 01:00 CEST

Plateau production of roughly 220 000 barrels of oil per day is expected from Statoil’s Norne field in the Norwegian Sea early next year. Current daily output is about 140 000 barrels."We’re in the build-up phase," says production vice president Hans Eidissen. "Five production wells from a total of 10 have so far been brought on stream. We expect to have completed another one towards the end of September, which will add a further 37 700 barrels to our daily output."

He adds that oil cargoes are currently being shipped from the Norne production ship at 4.5-day intervals Transocean Prospect is drilling and completing production wells on the field, which came on stream last November.
