Long-term gas sales contracts will remain important, Statoil executive Peter Mellbye will tell the European autumn gas conference in Cologne.

Being staged on 3-4 November, this year's meeting is attracting the main players in Europe's gas industry to discuss the impact of the European Union's gas directive.

Mr Mellbye, who is senior vice president for European Gas, plans to address Norway's role in the gas supplies to Europe, with the emphasis on deliveries from the Åsgard and Ormen Lange fields in the Norwegian Sea.

He will also be discussing opportunities for the sale of Norwegian gas to the UK and continental Europe.
