A prestigious Volkswagen supplier prize has been awarded for the second time to the Borealis petrochemicals group for its plastic raw materials.
Owned 50 per cent by Statoil, the Copenhagen-based group delivers such materials to bumpers for the German carmaker's Golf models.
The "corporate supplier award - the leading edge" is presented annually by Volkswagen to the best of its suppliers from all over the world.
Judged on flexibility, innovation, quality, service and competitiveness, Borealis was one of 63 award winners among some 10,000 companies.
"Being the only polymer supplier to receive one of this year's awards is a quality stamp for our engineering applications team," says executive vice president Staffan Lennström in Borealis.
The group ranks as Europe's biggest and the world's fourth largest producer of polyolefins – polyethylene and polypropylene – which are used to produce a number of car components.
These include bumpers, dashboards, body panels, interior trim, air conditioning systems and fuel tanks.
