The Åsgard B gas platform arrived safely on the Norwegian Sea field operated by Statoil during the morning of 24 April.

"We were welcomed by the crew on the A oil production ship with water monitors and flags," reports platform manager Astrid Jørgenvåg.

The floater received good help from wind and currents, reaching a top speed of five knots on its five-day voyage from the Åmøy Fjord outside Stavanger.

Connecting the unit to its 16-point mooring spread began at 23.30, and is scheduled to be completed in a couple of days.

The Safe Britannia flotel is due to be tied to Åsgard B with a gangway by 1 May. Work can then start on commissioning the platform to begin regular gas production on 1 October.
