Gas leak on Åsgard

August 13, 2001, 01:15 CEST

The six-kilometre pipeline that connects the Åsgard A production ship to the Åsgard B platform in the Norwegian Sea has been closed due to a gas leak.

The leak, which was discovered earlier today, 13 August, has been localised about 300 metres from the Åsgard B platform. There is no danger to people or installations in the area.

A remotely-operated vehicle (ROV), is currently inspecting the damage but Ola Krumsvik, operations vice president for Åsgard, reports that it is too early to determine the cause of the leak.

The gas from Åsgard A is now being reinjected into the reservoir.

Mr Krumsvik adds that the leak will not affect gas customer contracts.
