Troll A contracts placed

June 6, 2002, 14:30 CEST

A contract worth some NOK 1.3 billion covering two compressors for the Troll A platform in the North Sea has been awarded by operator Statoil to ABB Offshore Systems.

This engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) job forms part of a programme to expand compression capacity on the gas installation.

The two 40 megawatt units with associated utilities will run on electricity transmitted from land. Troll A is Norway’s only offshore installation to be powered in this way at present.

That ensures zero emissions of environmentally-harmful substances from the platform and the land-based gas treatment plant at Kollsnes north of Bergen.

Installing the two compressors will boost daily processing capacity on Troll A from 85 million cubic metres to just over 100 million.

Construction work is due to begin next spring, with the units being installed in the summer of 2004 and ready for operation in the autumn of 2005.

Contracts for power cables and electrical motors, and for lifting work, are also due to be placed in the near future.
