A contract worth NOK 120 million covering electrical equipment and control systems for Statoil’s Snøhvit development in the Barents Sea has been awarded to ABB.

Relating to the gas liquefaction plant at Melkøya in northern Norway, this job covers advice, studies, production, tailoring of switchboards and electric control systems.

Training will also be provided under the contract, which is already under way with completion scheduled for November 2005.

ABB already holds the NOK 1.3 billion turnkey contract to supply subsea installations on the gas and condensate field.

This includes the production system, comprising seabed templates, Xmas trees and manifolds, as well as the umbilical linking these facilities with land.

Production from Snøhvit, scheduled to start in 2006, is due to be remotely controlled from Melkøya outside Hammerfest via a 161-kilometre fibreoptic cable.

This development is the first in Norway’s sector of the Barents Sea, and the first in Europe based on producing liquefied natural gas (LNG).
