Awards for being the most popular employer among Norwegian technology and commerce students respectively were presented to Statoil by Universum Communication on 6 May.

Chief executive Olav Fjell accepted the prizes at a ceremony in Oslo which represented the first time they have been awarded in Norway.

Universum Communication is an independent company which conducts annual surveys among university and college students to identify their preferred employees.

Statoil came top among final-year Norwegian technology and commerce students for the second year in a row, beating such companies as KPMG, Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

“This placing is very gratifying,” comments Mr Fjell. “We attach importance to recruiting new graduates, and to giving our employees opportunities to develop within the group.

“We have a reputation as a serious and solid company, while at the same time being committed to innovative thinking.”

At the ceremony, he first accepted the prize for the top-ranked employer among technology students – who have put Statoil in the lead every year since 1997.

This was followed by the award for commerce students, who elevated the group from 16th place in 2000 to the most popular employer in 2002 and again this year.

Statoil has worked in recent years to enhance its image at the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration and the Norwegian School of Management.
