Reduced capacity at Mongstad

July 12, 2004, 11:00 CEST

Capacity at the Mongstad refining plant has been reduced to roughly 50 per cent following the fire which broke out in parts of the facility in the early hours of this morning, Monday 12 July.

Total production capacity at the refinery, which is normally 180,000 barrels per day, has now been reduced to approximately 90,000. It is too early to say how long the plant will have to operate with reduced capacity.

The crude oil facility is part of the refinery at Mongstad. The other parts of the refinery, including the cracker and petcoke plants, are currently operating more or less normally - although with reduced throughput - as these can also receive feedstock from other sources.

The Mongstad terminal which supplies crude oil to the market has not been affected by the fire.
