Houston office to open

June 1, 2005, 14:40 CEST

A Statoil office will be opened in the Texan oil city of Houston to follow up opportunities in the Gulf of Mexico region.

These waters have become a core asset for the group after the acquisition earlier this year of Encana’s deepwater portfolio there.

Initially intended to concentrate on exploration, drilling and development, the new office will be built up to accommodate 60 employees.

According to Bjørn Mortensen, project manager for establishing this facility, roughly 35 people are set to be in place there during 2005.

The office will be centrally located in Westchase on the western side of the city and inside the area known as the “energy corridor”. Many of Statoil’s business contacts are found there.
