Our decades of experience and knowledge mean that we are in a leading position to help other CCS projects develop and reach commercial scale. By sharing our research and expertise with research institutions, academia, other companies and authorities we wish to contribute to the further development of CCS.
The European carbon dioxide Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM) in Norway and In Salah in Algeria were both important steps in the development of CCS, with In Salah being the first geological storage of carbon dioxide in a producing gas reservoir and TCM allowing detailed research on how to scale up CCS.
We continue to work towards the goal of commercial CCS and evaluate opportunities to reduce our own CO2 emissions and explore Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) possibilities. To date we have separated and stored over 20 million tonnes of CO2 underground. Our current operations, Snøhvit and Sleipner are pushing the industry forward in this area, using stored CO2 to increase value creation through increased production on the two fields.
