The two heaviest modules for a new gas treatment facility at Statoil's Kårstø complex north of Stavanger arrived just before the weekend.
Intended to help process gas from the group's Åsgard field in the Norwegian Sea, these units where shipped from Belgian fabricator Fabricom near Antwerp.
Each of the modules weighs 768 tonnes and stands 27 metres high, and forms part of a "construction kit" comprising 118 pieces.
The two are now placed centrally in the heart of the new facility, which covers about 5.3 hectares.
Heavy-lift carrier Mighty Servant 3 is expected back with a new consignment of modules on Friday, reports area supervisor Svein Atle Bratbakk at Kårstø.
All the modules for the treatment facility are due to be in place by the first half of May, when mechanical hook-up can start.
Mr Bratbakk says that this work will continue until 1 April, and he expects the workforce to peak at around 1,200 people in this period.
Åsgard is due to start delivering gas to continental Europe via Kårstø from 1 October 2000.
