The first consignment of Statoil crude piped from Azerbaijan to Georgia on the Black Sea was loaded into SCF Champion on 15 May.
Hailing from the Azeri-Chirag field operated by the Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC) in the Caspian, this oil is the fifth cargo taken from the western pipeline.
The 830-kilometre line runs between the terminal south of Baku, capital of Azerbaijan, and the Georgian port of Supsa. Loading takes place from a buoy three kilometres offshore.
BP Amoco loaded the first consignment at Supsa on 7 April.
The Statoil cargo totals 536,000 barrels of Azeri light, a crude quality similar to North Sea oil, and has been sold by the group's oil traders.
SCF Champion is due to deliver the oil to a customer on the US east coast in June.
Crude previously exported by Statoil from the early production phase of Azeri-Chirag has been piped to Russia. In exchange, the Russians have supplied the group with other oil via their own pipelines to the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, where the northern export route from Azerbaijan terminates.
