The Gullfaks C platform in the North Sea is back in production after a 17-day turnaround.
Around half of the 59,000 working hours that were spent during the turnaround were related to the Gullfaks satellites phase II project. Some alterations have been carried out to the platform, and two new gas processing modules are now in place, which will allow gas to be received from the Gullfaks South and Rimfaks satellite fields from autumn 2001. This was the last of four turnarounds in order to commission the project.
Operations engineer Otto Lavik says that the operation required 8,000 working hours more than planned. This was due to extra work for the project and repairs that had to be carried out along the way.
Production restarted this morning, 30 May. Run-up to normal level will take a couple of days because tests are to be carried out on safety systems underway, reports Mr Lavik.
Gullfaks C produces around 170,000 barrels of oil per day. About half comes from the Hydro operated Tordis field.
