Visund gas to Kollsnes

July 3, 2002, 16:30 CEST

The partners in the Visund licence have decided to pipe the gas from the Hydro-operated Visund field in the North Sea to Statoil’s gas treatment plant at Kollsnes near Bergen.

“We are delighted to be getting new gas to Kollsnes. This means that we can fully exploit the capacity of the natural gas liquids (NGL) plant which will be ready in 2004,” reports Nils Sellevold, acting operations vice president for the Troll business cluster.

A 34-kilometre-long pipe will be laid between the Visund platform and the Kvitebjørn pipe which will go to Kollsnes.

The Visund platform in the Tampen area will also be modified so that gas exports can start in 2005. The remaining recoverable gas reserves in the field are estimated at 55 billion cubic metres.

Statoil will take over the operatorship for the Visund field on 1 January 2003.

Gas from both the Visund and Kvitebjørn fields will be treated at Kollsnes. The new NGL plant will remove the propane, butane and naphtha from the gas. The liquid will then be transported via the Vestprosess pipeline to Mongstad where it will be extracted as separate products.
