October 11, 2002, 17:00 CEST

A tanker driver employed by Statoil Ireland was killed in a traffic accident on the morning of 11 October.

The accident occurred about 120 kilometres north of the Irish capital, Dublin, when the driver was heading for a customer with a consignment of diesel oil. No other vehicles were involved.

“We have received this sad message with great sorrow, and our thoughts go to the victim’s family.” says Sten Åke Forsberg, senior vice president for retailing in Manufacturing & Marketing.

He reports that Statoil will be appointing an internal commission of inquiry to clarify the sequence of events in the accident and its cause.
