Hydro sponsors Beethoven Festival concert of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by its first guest conductor Manfred Honeck, will design the opening concert of the Bonn International Beethoven Festival on 20 September 2003 – thanks to Norsk Hydro. Norway’s largest industrial group is sponsoring this guest performance of the internationally renowned musicians from the country of Grieg.
A threefold premiere: the orchestra, which played itself to world fame under its former senior conductor Mariss Jansons, will for the first time perform at the Beethoven Festival. And, for the first time during a long-term intense sponsoring partnership, Hydro has explicitly asked the Orchestra to give a special guest performance: in Bonn.
Premiere number three: not Grieg or other familiar Norwegian names will be heard together with the works of Beethoven, but far more Alban Berg and a concert piece by the modern Norwegian composer Fartein Valen.
And what is Hydro’s aim with this substantial sponsoring commitment? Dieter J. Braun, who leads both the Automotive sector in Hydro Aluminium and Norsk Hydro Deutschland: "One important reason was that we want to present this wonderful orchestra to the concert audience in our home region on such a worthy occasion as the Beethoven Festival.”
For within the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Europe’s largest aluminium group Hydro Aluminium in particular employs more than 5,000 people. Further activities of the group like Hydro Oil & Energy and Hydro Agri, also have important sites in North Rhine-Westphalia.
