A fine of NOK 1 million has been imposed on Statoil by the public prosecutor for Rogaland county in respect of a fatal accident on the Byford Dolphin drilling rig on 17 April 2002.
Byford Dolphin was performing drilling services for Statoil on the Sigyn field in the North Sea when a 44-year-old man lost his life.
In accordance with normal procedure, the group will now assess the basis on which the fine has been imposed and decide whether to accept it.
