Hydro is one of the companies with the lowest emissions from oil and gas fields in the world, according to a study of 28 oil companies and operations in 59 countries. But despite these good results, the work to further reduce emissions and discharges continues unabated.
The company is among the top five in terms of reduction of emissions of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrogen oxides (NOx), and in the top half in the other areas covered by the environmental study.
Good result
"We are very pleased with the result of this study, particularly with regard to emissions of gases," says Tore Torvund, senior vice president in Hydro Oil & Energy. "However I believe we would have scored even higher today. The figures collated are from 2002, and we have worked a great deal on these areas since."
Hydro has improved since the study was carried out. Several of the measures aiming to reduce the environmental risk from discharges to sea by 80 percent by the end of 2005 have already been implemented.
"I can also promise that we will continue to work hard to reduce emissions and discharges further," concludes Tore Torvund.
