Utsira at Hannover Fair 2004

April 2, 2004, 01:00 CEST

Hydro's innovative energy solution for the island community of Utsira, utilizing wind power and hydrogen, will be exhibited when the company takes part in Hannover Fair 2004, the international technology fair to be held in Hanover, Germany, from 19 to 24 April.

Hannover Fair is undoubtedly the leading global exhibition of industrial technology in 2004. More than 5,000 exhibitors will be demonstrating their products and services over a 150,000 square metre area.

There are different categories for the various industries and product groups. Hydro's business units New Energy and Hydro Electrolysers will be welcoming customers, partners and other interested parties to stand F40/3 in Hall 13, where the exhibition focus will be on hydrogen and fuel cells, as part of the energy industry's presence at the fair.

Some 50,000 people working in the energy field are expected to visit the fair this year. They include planners, decision-makers and end-users; all are looking for custom-built solutions for their companies, business areas and countries.

"Winds of change"

Hydro's contribution to the exhibition will concentrate on the innovative project on the island of Utsira. The value of wind power is considerably enhanced with Hydro's technology in that excess power is transformed and stored as hydrogen, which can in turn be converted to electricity when there is little wind, or used for other useful and original energy applications in this self-sufficient "hydrogen community".

If the Utsira project is successful in the long term, the technologies and experiences gained here will find global application, providing considerable environmental gains.
