New supply ship chartered

May 26, 2004, 12:40 CEST

A new and more environment-friendly supply ship for use on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) has been chartered by Statoil from Norway’s Solstad Shipping.

Due to run for a firm period of five years with two options, each for one year, this contract is worth some NOK 300 million including options.

The vessel is under construction at Flekkefjord Slipp & Maskinfabrikk in southern Norway, with delivery scheduled for 31 March next year.

Its systems will include catalytic converters capable of reducing nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90 per cent.

With a deck area of almost 1,300 square metres, this ship ranks as one of the world’s largest of its kind.

It will largely be used as a pipecarrier in the summer months and for shipping freight to Statoil’s installations on the NCS, reports Terje Breivik, manager of the maritime operations sector.

The vessel has been designed in Norway by Vik & Sandvik, and most of its outfitting will be supplied by Norwegian sub-contractors.
