Fire alarm in Oseberg C turbine

August 17, 2004, 12:10 CEST

On Tuesday morning, the alarm routines were put into effect on Oseberg C in accordance with current procedures when the detection system on the installation warned of a possible fire in one of the turbines.

Closer investigation has so far found nothing to indicate that there is a fire, and further investigation will clarify whether this incident is due to a fault in the detection system. The situation on the installation was rapidly normalized, and production is expected to start up again during the course of the day.

The incident occurred at 08:48, and will be investigated in accordance with the current procedures.

Oseberg C is an integrated drilling, process and accommodation platform with a steel jacket. The platform is situated in the North Sea, 130 kilometres north west of Bergen. The oil produced is sent to the Oseberg Field Centre for further transport by pipeline to Stura in Øygarden. The gas is transported to the market via Oseberg Gas Transport and into the Statpipe system.
