Undefeated in Norway Cup

August 2, 2005, 01:00 CEST

The Hydro-sponsored Slovalco and Alunorte Rainforest youth soccer teams have won their qualifying groups and are now entering the final round of games in the Norway Cup, the world's largest soccer tournament.

For years, Hydro has supported the soccer-playing youths from Brazil, Slovakia and Jamaica in the Norway Cup.

Like last year, the Rainforest team, from the Alunorte alumina refinery in Brazil, and the Slovalco team, from the Slovakian aluminium plant with the same name, are participating in the Norway Cup with support from Hydro. Two Yara-sponsored teams, Potch from South Africa and Atrevidos from Brazil, are also taking part in Hydro Aluminium’s social program during the international soccer tournament in Oslo.

Each of the teams arrived on July 28 in Oslo, where they were met by Hydro Aluminium vice president Jon Arild Larsen and his colleagues from the local Tyrving sporting association. Larsen and crew are ensuring, on Hydro’s behalf, that the youths have a memorable week, both socially and on the soccer field.

"It’s a pleasure to be able to host these teams again," says Larsen.

"We’ve prepared a program that includes visits to the Norwegian soccer museum at Ullevaal Stadium, to the national ski jumping facility at Holmenkollen, to renowned Oslo sites such as Frognerparken and Bygdøy, and to the Tusenfryd amusement park. In addition, all of our guests attended the Golden League track and field event at the new Bislett Stadium in Oslo last Friday."
