Active part at ONS 2006

Hydro was a prominent participant at the 17th ONS conference and exhibition in Stavanger, August 22-25.

The bi-annual ONS (Offshore Northern Seas) is the largest event of its kind in Europe. The theme of this year’s show is “Bridging the energy gap.”

Participants include politicians, government officials and representatives from the oil and supplier industry, as well as a large number of participants from Norwegian and international media. In 2004, 33,000 visitors from 89 nations attended the conference and exhibition.

On Tuesday morning, August 22, Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon officially opened this year’s event. His schedule also included a visit to Hydro’s stand in the exhibition area.

Hydro’s contribution
On Wednesday morning Hydro arranged a press conference, where Tom Røtjer, head of the Ormen Lange project, provided information about the latest development on Ormen Lange and Langeled.

During the morning conference session on Wednesday, Alexandra Bech Gjørv, head of the New Energy unit in Hydro, delivered a speech entitled “Renewables and fossil fuels – how to get the right balance.”
 
Hydro was the only oil company to reach the finals in the “Young Professional Company Award” competition. A group of young Hydro colleagues made their presentation, “How to get more out of what we have,” on Wednesday afternoon. Four teams are competing for the grand prize, which was presented to a team from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate during a ceremony on Thursday morning.

Large exhibition stand
The Ormen Lange project was a central feature of Hydro’s stand in the exhibition area. Every hour, a “virtual reality show” was presented, including the simulation of tasks presently required on the deepwater field. A new and spectacular short film about the Troll field opened the show.

At the stand, Hydro answered questions about where energy will come from in the future, with illustrations from the company's summer media campaign on the subject entitled “Wind-up.”
