Blåmann dry

August 31, 2006, 18:00 CEST

Statoil has completed the drilling of an appraisal well in the Blåmann prospect in the Tampen area of the North Sea. No hydrocarbons were proven.

The objective of the well was to prove the presence of hydrocarbons in the Blåmann structure. The well 33/9-20 S is located three kilometres north-east of the Murchison platform in the UK sector, west of the 33/9-6 Delta discovery.

The appraisal well was drilled from the UK Murchison platform with CNR as technical operator. This was the first time that an appraisal well on the Norwegian continental shelf was drilled from a British platform. A sidetrack to further explore the Blåmann prospectivity is being evaluated.

"We are naturally disappointed," says Tim Dodson, senior vice president for exploration in Statoil’s Exploration & Production Norway business area.

"We will now need to reassess our plans for this structure."

Statoil is operator for production licence 037D with a 21.875% share, while Revus has 78.125%.
