Summer hunt is underway

Statoil is on the hunt for 75-90 talented and creative students for the summer project 2007.

This will be the 10th consecutive year that the group will be looking for students for its summer projects, all of which are associated with real challenges faced by Statoil’s business areas, such as technology and research. This time 20-25 projects will be executed.

“We need students for three projects relating to interactive games, among other things,” says Finn Sandberg, project manager. “We are also planning to develop training material for schools this summer. This material will be used to help make the sciences attractive to children and young people.”

Mr Sandberg believes that youngsters who are experienced in role-play and students with good communication skills will have valuable input to offer such projects. Enquiries from all over the world are already coming in.

“The summer projects have gradually become well known, partly because previous participants have recommended us,” he continues.

“The students who participate will benefit from a somewhat different and challenging summer job.”

The students work in teams for eight weeks and are challenged to work across their disciplines. Statoil is on the hunt for innovative students who are used to finding solutions, and who have a background in everything from technology and economics to history and media subjects.
The projects will take place at several of the group’s office locations.

“The summer projects are the longest job interview in Norway,” says Mr Sandberg. “For eight weeks we get to test potential Statoil employees.

" We get to see how the students solve challenges in a team, and how the individual functions in Statoil. The students also have new approaches to familiar issues.”

Last year 1,650 students applied for a job in the summer projects. Mr Sandberg expects even greater interest this year. The deadline for applications is 1 March.
