"This shows that Norwegian industry is competitive," said Anders Opedal, senior vice president for procurements, who presented the procurement figures at the Offshore Strategy Conference organised in Stavanger on 11 - 13 February.
Most to the Norwegian continental shelf
"As expected the greatest activity was on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS), which accounted for 61 percent of the costs. We will continue to make heavy investments here related to the streamlining of operations and modifications in the years ahead," Opedal said.
The large Snøhvit and Ormen Lange fields have now come on stream and the deliveries to development projects will drop. A high procurement level, however, is still expected in the years ahead due to increased well and drilling operations.
The consumption for 2007 was about 20 percent higher than in 2006. This reflects both a general price increase and the company's high activity on the NCS and internationally.
Control of cost increases
"In spite of the rise in prices we have managed to control our cost increases. We have, e.g., coordinated the procurement activities across the group. Such cooperation is one of the elements that will help ensure that StatoilHydro acquires sufficient capacity at competitive prices. We expect that the market will remain tight in the future," Anders Opedal said.
Last year Aker Kværner Stord was still the largest supplier. Furthermore, Aibel, FMC Kongsberg Subsea, Aker Kværner Offshore Partner, Schlumberger Norge, Halliburton, Acergy Norway, Transocean Offshore, Aker Reinertsen and Aker Kværner Subsea were some of the main suppliers, based in Norway.
Offshore strategy conference, an important arena for the supply industry, is held this year for the 14th time. Last year's conference gathered 335 participants from more 185 different companies.
