Alpine sponsorship deal renewed

April 19, 1999, 15:30 CEST

Statoil is extending its collaboration with the Norwegian alpine skiers.

A two-year collaboration agreement worth NOK 5.7 million annually was signed today between the Norwegian Ski Association and Statoil. The deal calls for the group to be main sponsor for the men's alpine ski team, sponsor for the women's team and sole sponsor for Statoil Alpine Cup, a talent-seeking competition for boys and girls. It is an extension of the current three-year agreement of similar annual value which expires on 31 May.

"The alpine deal has promoted our image extremely well both at home and abroad," says Marit Spilde Erikstein, marketing manager in the public affairs department.

"We've been measuring the way the group's profile has been exposed throughout the sponsorship period, and can document that the deal fosters a good reputation and positive relations for the company. Our surveys also show that we've succeeded in presenting ourselves to broad groups of the public and not only alpine fans."

Retail Norway has been an active user of the alpine sponsorship agreement, having applied it in its nation-wide product marketing effort.

"The deal has been put to good use internally, both towards important groups of customers and our own employees," Ms Erikstein observes. "Sponsoring will remain a key marketing instrument in order to create good internal and external relations."
