The wind dropped enough on 7 November for Statoil's Åsgard B platform to be towed from the Åmøy Fjord to the Kværner Rosenberg yard in Stavanger.
"Once this mated unit has been moored and readied, construction can continue in earnest on 9 November," says project manager Bård Heimset. He adds that work is a couple of days ahead of schedule.
Strong winds prevailing in the area over the past week moderated to give the project a weather window of 36 hours, and moving the 60,000-tonne floater to shore took half that time.
The Kværner yard had 350 workers on standby over the weekend to start hooking up out on the fjord if the winds had continued to blow.
Mating of the semi-submersible hull with two topside sections began in the Åmøy Fjord on 18 October. Calculated at 700,000 work-hours, the job now is to hook piping and cables up between topsides and hull before testing can begin.
The B platform is due to be ready for tow-out to the Åsgard field in the Norwegian Sea by 11 April. Once on site, it will be tied back to the subsea installations, tested and readied to start producing gas and condensate on 1 October.
