First gas in Åsgard Transport

May 23, 2000, 10:00 CEST

Gas began to be introduced on 20 May into Statoil's Åsgard transport trunkline at the Kårstø treatment plant north of Stavanger.

This followed the formal transfer of the 730-kilometre transport system from the project team to the transport net operations organisation on the day before.

The gas is due to reach Åsgard in the Norwegian Sea around 13 June, when the line will contain no less than 115 million cubic metres of gas.

Filling the system in this way will allow the Åsgard B gas platform to commission and tests its own facilities. It is due to start returning gas to Kårstø on 1 August.

"We're getting dry processed gas from the treatment plant," explains project director Bård Heimset. "That's needed to dewater the flowlines between Åsgard B and the Midgard deposit. We can then begin starting up the process plant on the platform."

Gas from Kårstø will be used for two weeks, before being replaced by wellstreams from Midgard.
