A contract worth roughly NOK 600 million to build the Kvitebjørn jacket has been awarded by Statoil to Aker Verdal in mid-Norway.
Won against stiff international competition, this job embraces engineering, procurement and construction of the jacket and the piles to keep it in place.
Engineering will be carried out in cooperation with Aker Engineering in Oslo, and begins immediately.
Fabrication at the yard north of Trondheim is scheduled to start in December, with delivery in August 2002. The platform is due to come on stream two years later.
The jacket will be delivered in two sections for connection on the North Sea field. It is due to stand 215 metres high and weigh about 18,000 tonnes, including piles.
Located in the Tampen area of the northern North Sea, Kvitebjørn is being developed with a fully-integrated platform carrying processing and drilling facilities as well as the quarters module.
Gas and condensate will be separated and piped to Kollsnes and Mongstad respectively. Both these Statoil facilities are in the Bergen area.
Statoil's partners in the development are Norsk Hydro and Elf Petroleum Norge.
