Runavik to be Faroes base

February 28, 2001, 10:15 CET

The operator companies on the Faroese continental shelf – Statoil, BP, Amerada Hess and Agip – have selected ASB/Faroe Ship to supply base services from Runavik.

ASB/Faroe Ship is a group comprising several Faroese industrial firms and the shipping company Faroe Ship.

The base is located about an hour's drive north of the capital Torshavn. The base will provide transit storage for drilling equipment, well chemicals and other supplies to the drilling rigs, says John Egil Inderhaug, Statoil’s project manager for the Faroes.

Five tenders were submitted. The contract will begin on 1 March and continue until the end of 2003.

Mr Inderhaug says that the value of the contract depends on the number of exploration wells that are drilled. The operators on the Faroese continental shelf have planned three during this year, one of which will be drilled by Statoil. The company is operator for the two exploration licences 003 and 006.
