A contract worth some NOK 640 million for a new desulphurisation plant has been awarded by Statoil to Kværner Engineering & Construction.
Being built at the group’s Mongstad refinery near Bergen, this facility is scheduled to be ready towards the end of 2002.
“We’ve given weight in placing this job to quality, expertise, and health, safety and the environment as well as price and capacity,” says Mongstad head Nils-Bjørn Jordal.
The new plant will remove sulphur from the cracker naphtha used to make petrol, allowing Statoil to exceed planned European Union quality requirements for this product.
That in turn will allow car manufacturers to apply new and more efficient technology for cleaning exhaust fumes, giving improved air quality in future.
