Gullfaks in full production

August 28, 2001, 11:30 CEST

Production from Statoil’s Gullfaks field in the North Sea is back to normal after just over two weeks of technical problems.

Full output of 190,000 barrels of oil per day was achieved from the A and B platforms over the weekend.

Both installations have been operating at reduced capacity since 6 August.

This followed trials by Statoil with a new and less polluting type of chemical for desulphurisation, which turned out to block piping systems and tanks on the platforms.

Processing equipment – including piping, instruments and heat exchangers – has now been cleaned and is functioning normally.
