Top for sustainability

September 12, 2005, 09:50 CEST

Statoil has been ranked as the best oil and gas company in the world for sustainability by the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World).

ā€œItā€™s very gratifying to be rated as the best in the world by this organisation,ā€ says Rolf Magne Larsen, senior vice president for country analysis and social responsibility.

ā€œOne of our core values is to contribute to sustainable development and accept social responsibility. This positive feedback from the market shows weā€™re on the right track.

ā€œOnly a handful of oil and gas companies make it onto this list ā€“ nine out of 79. So itā€™s an extra bonus to be ranked as number one among these few.ā€

Statoil had the same ranking last year, but has improved on the great majority of the underlying measurements since then.

ā€œThe most gratifying aspect compared with 2004 is the finding that weā€™ve become better at developing our personnel,ā€ says Mr Larsen.

ā€œThis means that weā€™re now perceived as being cleverer, more professional and more systematic at providing employees with opportunities for development.ā€
