Airline deals in place

"We have obtained a large number of quotes in order to secure competitive prices and flexible solutions," says Trygve Takle Pedersen, head of travel management in StatoilHydro.

"These agreements are more appropriate to the group's travel arrangements and will offer more alternatives to travellers."

Alliances improve airline offers
The new deals apply to Star Alliance and Sky Team, in addition to 14 agreements with independent airlines, including Norwegian Air Shuttle.

Valid for periods varying between one and five years, the agreements have a total net value of about NOK 900 million.

The total value in the period of contract, including options for extension, is about NOK 4 billion.

  • The Star Alliance agreement covers nine airlines: SAS, Widerøe, Lufthansa, Air Canada, BMI (British Midland), Air China, Austrian Airlines, Turkish Airlines and TAP Portugal. It is valid for three years with a two-year extension option. The annual net value is about NOK 700 million. The value for the whole period of contract, including extensions is NOK 3.5 billion in today's money. 
     
  • The Sky Team agreement covers three airlines: Air France, KLM and Northwest Airlines, and is valid for two years. It's net value is about NOK 140 million. The value for the whole period of contract is about NOK 280 million in today's money.

"These deals mean big savings, which will make an important contribution to reducing our travel costs," says Mr Pedersen.

In addition to the two alliances, individual agreements have been signed with the following airlines: British Airways, Continental Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Norwegian, Malmø Aviation, Czech Airlines, Qatar Airways, Icelandair, Finnair, Air Baltic, Vildanden, Brussel Airlines, Aeroflot og Malaysia Airlines.
