September 16, 2005, 10:00 CEST

Hydro is on Gazprom's list of possible future participants in the development of the Shtokman gas field. "Hydro sees this as an important step forward in our cooperation with Gazprom," says Hydro senior vice president, Bengt Lie Hansen.

The Russian state-owned gas company Gazprom released Friday a list of companies who will negotiate for participation in the development of the Shtokman gas condensate field in the Russian sector of the Barents Sea. Hydro is one of five companies on the list.

During a  press conference in Moscow, Gazprom presented its  plans to initiate  negotiations with the named companies aiming to establish the final consortium for the Shtokman development within the next 4-6 months.

– We are ready to move forward in our long-term relationship with Gazprom in developing one of the largest offshore gas fields in the world. Hydro believes our proven skills within offshore technology, project control handling and securing local content is of importance in order to develop the Shtokman field successfully, says Lie Hansen.

Hydro has had a long-term relationship with Gazprom and has been involved in  the Shtokman evaluations during the last 15 years, which has given Hydro considerable insight into technological and geological aspects of the field.

Hydro was part of the drilling of appraisal well number four in the nineties. Today, Hydro is cooperating with Gazprom, Sevmorneftegaz and Gazflot in planning of the drilling of appraisal well number 7 on Shtokman.
