Environmental certificate for Statoil

Statoil’s environmental management system has now been certified to the ISO 14001 standard. The certification will be valid for three years.

This means that Statoil has been evaluated and certified on the basis of the internationally recognised standard for the environmental management of businesses. Statoil’s chief executive Helge Lund received the ISO certificate from Henrik O Madsen, chief executive of Norske Veritas (DNV) yesterday, 29 June.

Statoil has put considerable work into simplifying and increasing the efficiency of the group’s management systems and governing documents in recent years. This has resulted in substantial improvements.

”Although we have good internal advocates, it is useful to have an external body that ensures that we comply with the system we have established. It is also important that we set goals that are tracked and drive improvement,” Mr Lund said. He added that Statoil regards the certification audits by DNV as an active and constructive contribution to the group’s improvement work.

”This confirmation that also our environmental management system is in accordance with international standards is important to us, both internally, and towards the outside world.

Statoil ASA is already certified to the quality management standard, ISO 9001.
