New oil discoveries in Angola

April 7, 2010, 13:35 CEST

Both wells, located around 350 km north-west of Luanda in 1,400 metres of water depth, successfully reached the objectives in the Lower Miocene targets where oil pay sands with good reservoir characteristics were encountered.

Operations were completed in December 2009 for Nzanza-1 and in February 2010 for Cinguvu-1.

The positive outcomes from the two wells will allow proceeding with the currently ongoing pre-development phase of the “Western Hub”.

Nzanza-1 and Cinguvu-1 results follow the recent success of Cabaça Norte-1 reaching a count of three consecutive oil discoveries in the block in 2009, and five in total, including Sangos and N’Goma drilled by the block 15/06 partnership in 2008.

The partners in Block 15/06 will continue during 2010 the exploration drilling with the target to secure the resources that will support the sanctioning of the second production hub in the north-east area of the block.

Eni has a 35% working interest and is the operator in Block 15/06, while Sonangol E&P is the concessionaire. The other partners of the contractor group are Sonangol Pesquisa e Produção (15%), SSI Fifteen Limited (20%), Total (15%), Falcon Oil Holding Angola SA (5%), Petrobras International Braspetro B.V. (5%) and Statoil Angola Block 15/06 Award AS (5%).
