FIRST® LEGO® League & Equinor

We need more science and technology heroes for the future. As one of the world’s largest knowledge and technology competitions, FIRST® LEGO® League plays an important role in fostering an early enthusiasm for these subjects among young people.

Each year, tens of thousands of teams from over 100 countries collaborate to solve a challenge related to a theme within science and technology. Using robots, programming, and their own ingenuity, they have to come up with solutions to various problems.

In other words, the competition isn’t all that different from what we at Equinor do every day. Each day, 24,000 employees go to work to search for better solutions—often with the help of robots, programming, and their own minds, among other things. Through collaboration in science and technology, we work every day to accelerate the energy transition, but we’ll need more bright minds and skilled hands in the future to solve these tasks. That is why we sponsor FIRST® LEGO® League.

And that is why we gave this year’s task to four solution-oriented Equinor employees. Because, it is quite similar. Or is it?

FIRST® LEGO® League and my job as an engineer share many similarities. Planning, construction and collaboration is important aspects of both.

Can four Equinor employees solve this year’s challenge?

We gave the challenge to four of our employees, who usually work on some of the largest and most technically challenging projects in the energy transition. In just four hours, they have do their best to solve up to six tasks with the robot. They would need to program, build, and coordinate, and most importantly: collaborate.
