First oil from Gullfaks satellites

October 12, 1998, 01:00 CEST

Oil is now flowing from Gullveig, the first of Statoil's three Gullfaks satellites in the North Sea to come on stream.

Production began on Saturday, and a total of 23 wells are due to be tied back to Gullfaks A from this field as well as from Rimfaks and Gullfaks South.

Once all the producers are on stream, total output from the A platform will be virtually doubled from the current figure. This averages roughly 138.000 barrels of oil per day.

Geir Pettersen, senior vice president for Oil Operations, has congratulated everyone involved in the satellites development.

"We can all be proud of this project. It has involved many innovations as well as complex and extensive modifications to Gullfaks A. These changes were accomplished in a way which commands respect."
