The Pierce field in the UK North Sea began production early on Monday 1 February.
Development and operation of this field has been assigned by operator Enterprise Oil to the Pierce Production Company (PPC). This partnership comprises Navion,Advanced Production Systems (APS) and Oslo shipowner Bergesen.
Oil started flowing at 04.15, reports project manager Tor B Tangvald at PPC. Commercial output will probably begin within a couple of weeks.
Located 280 kilometres east of Aberdeen, Pierce is being developed with six production wells and two gas injectors. The latest well has upgraded estimated recoverable oil reserves from 84 to 104 million barrels.
Multipurpose shuttle tanker Berge Hugin, which is owned 50-50 by Navion and Bergesen, will produce roughly 45,000 barrels per day from Pierce.
Statoil owns 80 per cent of Navion and is joint owner of APS with Norway's Aker Maritime.
