More gas for UK

May 10, 1999, 10:00 CEST

A second short-term contract in the UK has been secured by Norway's Gas Negotiating Committee (GFU).

Between 500 million and one billion cubic metres of gas is due to be delivered under this deal next winter, reports marketing manager Jan Karlsen at Statoil in London.

He is pleased that the GFU has again been able to make use of the Interconnector trunkline between Belgium and Britain, which provides access to the UK's liberalised gas market.

According to Mr Karlsen, it pays to sell gas to Britain in the winter because prices in this market are then higher than in continental Europe.
