Statoil will be exhibiting at Hannover's Expo 2000 as part of the Norwegian pavilion at this world exposition in the north German city.
A total of 65 million visitors are expected to attend the show, with 185 countries scheduled to exhibit.
Environmental protection, energy and technology will be the principal themes of Norway's display, which includes a 15-metre-high waterfall and a "quiet room" to stimulate thought and reflection.
"We'll be promoting ourselves as an important energy supplier who takes the environment seriously," says Einar Bergh, Statoil's exhibition manager. "Gas as a cleaner energy carrier than coal will also be promoted."
Norway's participation at the exposition is being organised by a limited company called Norge på Expo 2000, with Statoil as one of its shareholders.
Other participants are the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Norsk Hydro, Statkraft, Telenor, Moelven Industrier and three travel-trade bodies - Color Line, the Coastal Express service and the Nortra tourist organisation.
The budget for the Norwegian pavilion is NOK 90 million, with Statoil contributing NOK 4.5 million.
Seville in southern Spain hosted the previous world exposition, which took place in 1992.
