All welding work on the inshore section of Statoil's Åsgard Transport gas trunkline from the Norwegian Sea to south-west Norway has been completed.
This stretch runs from the landfall on the western side of Karmøy island north of Stavanger to Statoil's nearby Kårstø gas treatment complex.
A large part of the personnel and machinery employed on laying this part of the pipeline have been demobilised, and the only job remaining is to backfill trenched sections.
Plans call for the remaining rough landscape restoration to be completed by 1 December. Sand and topsoil must be returned to a section about one kilometre long on Karmøy, and a little remains unfinished on the Fosen peninsula further inland.
Most of the work has been completed on the rest of the stretch up to the gas treatment plant.
Åsgard Transport is due to start carrying gas from Statoil's Åsgard development on 1 October 2000.
