Åsgard B named

March 30, 2000, 12:00 CEST

The naming ceremony for Statoil's Åsgard B gas platform is being held today, 30 March, at the Kværner fabrication yard in Stavanger.

Merethe Storødegård, chair of Nord-Trøndelag county council, is the sponsor.

Following the ceremony, representatives from the authorities, the development project and the Åsgard licensees are invited to lunch on board. They will then be offered a tour of the floating structure.

The Åsgard B hull arrived in Stavanger from Daewoo in South Korea last September, and was mated with the topside in a fjord outside the city.

Work since then at the Kværner yard has consisted of testing and commissioning systems on the unit.

The platform is due to set off on 19 April for the Åsgard field in the Norwegian Sea, where it will be tied into the subsea installations.

After a final round of system testing, Åsgard B is scheduled to start producing gas and condensate on 1 October.
