ICA Express trial in Denmark

June 28, 2000, 10:00 CEST

Three ICA Express convenience stores will be opened at Statoil service stations in Denmark this summer as part of a pilot project.

One opens in Copenhagen on 29 June, with the others following during July at Birkerød north of the Danish capital and Frederikssund to the north-west.

This marks the first appearance of the ICA brand in Denmark.

Statoil and ICA established Statoil Detaljhandel Skandinavia last year as a 50-50 partnership, and 15 ICA Express shops are already open on forecourts in Norway and Sweden.

The partners plan to establish 500-600 of the stores at Statoil stations around Scandinavia.

"We expect Denmark to have a potential for about 50 of these," reports Kai Nielsen, public affairs manager for Statoil Detaljhandel.

But the partners intend to see how the three pilot units perform before taking any decision on further expansion in Denmark.
